Executive Director, Institute for Sustainable Development
Chris Carmody is the Executive Director of the Institute for Sustainable Development and its Green Plus program. Chris leads the Green Plus partnership of chambers of commerce, universities, and business leaders in providing high quality advice, coaching, and recognition to businesses pursuing better business, environmental, and social practices. Green Plus, a business education and certification program founded in North Carolina’s Research Triangle Park region, has partner businesses and chambers of commerce in 16 states, and provides open source expertise to businesses across the United States.
Previously, Chris worked in economic development and entrepreneurship-focused philanthropy. In the 1990s, Chris served City of Cleveland Mayor Michael R. White as Special Assistant for Education Policy and later as Director of the Mayor’s Office on Competitiveness. Over the years, Chris has taught courses in policy and strategic management at Cleveland State and Duke Universities, and at Oberlin College.
Chris is a 2002 American Marshall Memorial Fellow and a 2012 Goodmon Fellow. He holds an M.B.A. from Case Western Reserve University, where he was student body president, and an A.B. from Oberlin College.
