BCLC Awards Grainger, Kraft, Pfizer and UnitedHealth 2011 "Citizens"

Last night, BCLC and the U.S. Chamber honored America’s top civic and social corporate leaders at its 12th annual Corporate Citizenship Awards Gala. Grainger, Kraft Foods, Pfizer/Pfizer Foundation and UnitedHealth Group took home the night’s top honors. Over 300 guests from top companies and non-profits joined BCLC at the awards gala held at the Newseum in Washington D.C.

The U.S. Chamber BCLC presented awards in four categories:

Best Partnership — Grainger and its nonprofit partner, the American Red Cross, won this people’s choice category for their decade-long collaboration that led to a national employee volunteerism initiative to help communities facing disaster, called Ready When the Time Comes. More than 44,500 individuals voted in the Best Partnership contest, with Grainger and Red Cross capturing 37 percent of the total. Learn more about Grainger and the American Red Cross's initiatives.

Best U.S. Business Neighbor — UnitedHealth Group received the Best Business Neighbor award for deploying vast resources and technological expertise to combat America’s diabetes epidemic in the United States. Best International Ambassador — Pfizer Inc. and the Pfizer Foundation received this award for their work throughout the world to fight neglected non-communicable diseases and their associated risks. Over the past four years, the company has invested $47 million in cancer and tobacco-control partner organizations in 46 countries. Learn more about the Pfizer Global Health Partnerships.

Best Corporate Stewardship — Kraft Foods won this category won this category for its overall culture, its operational practices, and for creating shared value benefitting both the company and society. Kraft Foods’ global priorities focus on sustainability and health & well-being, including the underlying issues of obesity and malnutrition. Learn more about Kraft Foods.

Stephen Jordan, BCLC’s Founder and Executive Director, remarked, “The companies recognized last night are creating real and lasting positive impact on our world – they deserve this recognition.”

In addition to the four winners, BCLC also recognized the following honorees:  AECOM Technology Corporation, Alcoa, Inc., Allstate Insurance/The Allstate Foundation, Amway, Capital One Financial Corporation, Dow Chemical, FedEx, Hess Corporation, Hormel Foods Corporation, Intel Corporation, Kimberly-Clark/Huggies, PepsiCo, Target, Tupperware Brands Corporation and Western Union Company.
